CHOCOLATE ART!

Carlos Vela-Martinez, Joanne Morgridge and Kelly Miller have been busy conducting an extensive two days, hands on airbrushing course at Cocoa West's production facility. Students have come from around the globe to learn - all the way from Florida to Alaska!

After completing an extensive three month, online course with Ecole Chocolat, (or have had previous chocolate or pastry experience) students will have the opportunity to further their knowledge and get a bit more creative! Then they will learn the techniques of colour on chocolate and how to use the tools and equipment that is needed to create your chocolate art!

"Everyone usually starts out intimidated using an air brush, but once we get them familiar with the basics, they get their wings and fly. Imagination is really the only limitation here." So, why not have some fun and let your imagination run wild!

Our next colour class will be held November 14th and 15th - Can't wait to meet our new students!

For a full description of the Colour Classes and other Chocolate Programs at Cocoa West, please visit the Ecole Chocolat .

WE WON!

Cocoa West is happy to announce that we WON best commercial float!  This year there were some very unique and cool floats, but Cocoa West happened to catch the eyes of the judges and those watching :D Thanks to all of those who came to support us, for those of you that weren't able to make it out, you missed out!

Our "Under The Sea" float was the mystical Kraken. Definition: An enormous mythical sea monster said to appear off the coast of Norway. It is basically a gigantic squid that attacks boats!

The Kraken would not be successful without the brainstorming and hardwork of the Cocoa West staff and the intricate design work by Carlos Vela-Martinez. The construction of the float itself took approximately 5 days, 24 Orange Garbage Bags, 412 Zip Ties, 75 Bamboo Stakes, 180 ft of .5" Rubber Tubing, 4 Rolls of Packing Tape, 4 paint poles, 4 cans of spray paint and 1 Scooter.

Here are a couple of photos of the creation of the Kraken!

MEET THE NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK

The Hot Chocolates

We have recently added to our retail hot chocolate collection! So, without further ado, we would like to introduce you to the new kids on the block – The Classic, The Seville and The Sojourn. The Classic is milk chocolate with cinnamon blend to tingle your tongue; The Seville is our darkest hot chocolate and also has slight hint of cinnamon to stimulate your taste buds; The Sojourn is our take on “instant” hot chocolate -- but sooo much better than the usual powdered stuff. It's just as rich and smooth as the other flavours and uses the same organic whole chocolate and is perfect for camping, or on the go without the compromise of flavour. If you don't already know, all of our hot chocolates are certified organic and made with whole organic chocolate. We use highly innovative formulation to make you the perfect cup (or should I say mug) of hot chocolate.

The Packaging

The newly designed packaging is a sleek charcoal brown with our signature swirls and a punch of colour to distinguish the six blends. Consistent with our philosophies, we decided to change the packaging and  switched from our cylinder tins to an environmentally friendly, recyclable box. We believe it's important to contribute to a healthy planet, not only with the ingredients we use but also the packaging that we put it in. The packaging is easier to recycle as the outer box is made from paper. The inner foil pouch is resealable and blank so you can use it to for your snacks when your done.
To significantly reduce our carbon footprint, and to support our local community these new boxes are manufactured in Richmond, BC. Our new packaging, weighs approximately 30% less than our previous metal containers, which will further reduce our carbon footprint and shipping costs!

Finding Them

As of Friday, midnight, you will be able to purchase them online, our retail shop and soon to follow: Urban Fare, Edible Canada and The Ruddy Potato.

The Classic – A creamy milk chocolate with a slight touch of cinnamon – simple, but delicious.

The Signature – A mouth watering blend of milk and dark chocolate with a hint of aromatic spices.

The Sojourn – A gourmet instant hot chocolate – easy to make on the go!

The Seville – A robust blend of dark chocolate (71% cocoa mass) with a slight touch of cinnamon.

The Poblano – A blend of milk and dark chocolate with a slight hint of heat.

But, in the meantime, we would like to introduce you to our personality collection. Since we value our staff members opinions and like to see them get a bit creative  and have fun, we  let them create a collection of bars based on their tastes and preferences. So without further ado we would like you to meet them.

The Alicia

The Calder
A delectable combination of white, milk and dark chocolate mixed with chewy dried pears, cranberries, raisins, and blueberries.
